Semits Smash Repairs

Semits Smash Repairs was founded in 1968 by Newcastle panel beaters and auto painters, Manuel Semit and Bruce Johansen.
The original automotive repair shop was located at 8 Swan Street and took up the corner block of Hudson and Swan Streets in Hamilton.
The car repair business grew quickly and additional space was added after just five years. By 1980 the owners purchased the property at the rear of the smash repair shop.
In December 1994, Semits Smash Repairs expanded when the owners bought the property next door at 6 Swan Street to cover the floor space the repair shop stands on today. Not only did this provide additional smash repair capacity but it also delivered the current administration and customer service areas.
Manuel and Bruce started the business with the assistance of one apprentice and current owners, David Young and Cameron Hudson have grown the business to 12 permanent employees.
The growth of the business is a reflection of the company’s commitment to providing a training ground for young industry apprentices.

Manuel and Bruce started with little more than a hammer, a sander and a paint spray-gun but today the business boasts sophisticated panel beating technology, an automotive spray booth and a fleet of modern tow trucks.
Technology has changed over the years to include a Repair Cam system that provided videotaped inspection and a car-o-liner that is used for straightening and re-aligning damaged vehicles and computerised colour matching.
In 1995 came the first paint-free dent remover which was predominantly used for cars that had hail damage and other small scrapes.
Semits Smash Repairs has always used state of the art paint technology and employed top tradesmen to deliver auto spray painting in a dust free environment.
In 2003, current owners Cameron and David purchased the property from the former owners which included land on the corner of Hudson and Swan Streets and from 5 to 7 Swan Street covering a total area of 1465 square metres on two street corners.
Semits Smash Repairs has been supporting Hamilton, Newcastle and the Hunter communities for close to 50 years and is proud of the partnerships it has in the region today. We are pleased to assist charities where possible.
